Suresh Raina might have fallen down the pecking order as far as his chances of making it to the Indian team is concerned but the southpaw has not really given up on his hopes of making it to the team for this year’s T20 World Cup. The World Cup-winner is well aware of the fact that making a comeback to the team is very tough but he has not given up.

Suresh Raina has not played for the Men in Blue since the tour of England in 2018. It was his comeback series too but he had failed to get going and was dropped straightaway from the team. Since then, he has not even come close to earning a recall. And while his chances of returning to the team are looking quite bleak, Suresh Raina is pinning his hopes on the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL).

“It is too early right now. I have always enjoyed my cricket, irrespective of where I play. I have not set any target right now. If I am able to do well in the IPL, I will be able to understand how I am shaping up. I have played enough to know what the situation demands. So my T20 World Cup hopes depend on my performance in the IPL,” Suresh Raina told The Times of India.

“If I can make my knee strong and have a good IPL, then I know that I have another 2-3 years of cricket left in me. There are two back-to-back T20 World Cups. I have done well in T20 cricket,” added Suresh Raina who has not played any competitive game since the last IPL due to a knee injury.

With India still searching for the right combination in the middle-order, Suresh Raina believes that he can definitely be in contention for a spot in the team provided he does well in the IPL.

“Definitely. But if I want to play, I need to perform. The IPL is the best platform to get into the team especially when you are talking about the T20 World Cup. Everyone knows what sort of a player I am,” he added.
