The thrilling final of the ICC U19 World Cup final between India and Bangladesh was marred by the poor behaviour of the players. Bangladesh beat India by three wickets (DLS method) to win their first-ever ICC U19 World Cup. However, the win was a bit soured by the poor behaviour of the players.

Right from the start of the game, Bangladesh players showed needless aggression and tried to get under the skin of the Indian players. As early as in the second over of the match, Tanzim Hasan Sakib picked up the ball and threw it towards Divyaansh Saxena after the India opener tapped the ball back to the bowler. It was followed by a bit of staring and mouthing-off before the umpire intervened.

Bishan Singh Bedi furious:

In the wake of the players’ poor behaviour in the final, former India skipper Bishan Singh Bedi has come down heavily on the Indian players. Bishan Singh Bedi only criticised the Indian players, saying that the Bangladesh players’ behaviour is not India’s player.

“Look, what Bangladesh do is their problem, what our boys do is our problem. You could see that there was abusive language used,” Bishan Singh Bedi was quoted as saying by Mid-Day.

“You bat, bowl and field badly…happens, but there’s no excuse for behaving badly. The behaviour was disgusting and most disgraceful. The innocence of that age was not visible at all,” added Bishan Singh Bedi as he questioned the players’ age.

Speaking more on the age-issue, the legendary cricketer said:

“India, Pakistan and Bangladesh…all Asian teams which made the semi-finals…you could tell from a country mile that the players were not under-19. Few years ago, Rahul Dravid spoke about the overage issue. What has happened to us? I am very disappointed.

An avid cricket lover, I just love this game more than anything. Writing about cricket keeps me closer to the game.
