India have suspended all the bilateral ties with Pakistan but it has not at all affected the rivalry between the two countries and Shoaib Malik’s latest post on Twitter pretty much proves that. The arch-rivals have not played a full bilateral Test series since 2007 when Pakistan visited India for three Tests and five One-Day Internationals.

They played a short series of three ODIs and two T20s in India in December 2012, but otherwise, both have faced each other only in the ICC organised events or the Asia Cup. They last met in this year’s World Cup where India thrashed the Men in Green to all but end the latter’s slim hopes of progressing in the competition.

But despite the lack of games between the two nations in recent years, the rivalry has been maintained as Shoaib Malik proved it on Wednesday. The former Pakistan skipper, who was out for a first-ball duck against India in this year’s World Cup, took to Twitter to taunt India on the occasion of Christmas. He used the occasion to remind the Indian fans of Pakistan’s win over the Men in Blue in a T20I on December 25 in 2012.

Malik posted a picture of himself celebrating behind the-then India captain MS Dhoni and wished his fans a Merry Christmas as well as ‘Happy 25th December’, tweeting:

“Merry Christmas dosto ?? and a very happy 25th December ?”

The game:

Talking about the game Shoaib Malik was referring to, Pakistan beat India by five wickets in Bengaluru. Asked to bat first, India collapsed from 77 for 1 to 124 for 9 and eventually posted a modest 133. India then came out all guns blazing with the ball.

Newcomer Bhuvneshwar Kumar ran through Pakistan’s top-order to reduce the visitors to 12 for 3. However, Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez scored fine fifties to take their team home. While Malik remained on 57, Hafeez scored 61.
