Former South African skipper, Graeme Smith believes disgraced ex-Australian skipper Steven Smith will make a strong comeback, after facing the consequences of the ball tampering scandal at Cape Town in South Africa earlier this year.
Australian cricket team’s leadership featuring Smith and David Warner, along with besieged ball tamperer Cameron Bancroft were handed bans ranging from 9-12 months.
Also, the former vice-captain and captain will not be able to get back to their coveted positions for a couple of years due to the sanctions imposed by Cricket Australia (CA) following a thorough investigation.
‘The Australia team got into that mindset of winning at all costs and the way they play the game,” Graeme said at the sidelines of CEAT Cricket Rating Awards quoted by Reuters.
Further, the former South African cricketer Graeme intended to conduct an interview with Steven, to effect changes within the Australian cricketing culture, and win-at-all-cost attitude.
“I would love to interview him (Steve) and ask him if that’s something he wishes he had sort of changed a little bit as the leader in terms of the culture, how they play, the win at all cost mindset,” added the 37-year old Proteas opener.
I expect him to bounce back: Graeme
It is learnt that the disgraced Australian Steven will feature in the Global Twenty20 Canada League.
“And how he’s reviewed that now after the situation. That will be an interesting interview,” imagined Graeme.
However, appealing to the human component amongst sportsmen, Graeme believes one and all have mistakes.
In conclusion, Graeme Smith believes that the Australian will come back hard in the future.

“Playing at the top level is competitive, you want to win. He’s still a young man. We have all made mistakes. I expect him to bounce back and come back really strong. Mentally he would have grown a lot from this situation,” concluded Graeme.
