The International Cricket Council (ICC) finally confirmed the postponement of the T20 World Cup 2020 due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, after much deliberation during its board meeting via video-conferencing on Monday. The marquee event was scheduled to take place in October-November in Australia.

However, there were big question marks over the tournament due to the coronavirus pandemic. The ICC, however, waited till the last moment before eventually calling off the tournament. The governing body of the game had been exploring all-possible ‘contingency’ options for the tournament before finally deciding to call it off for this year.

The ICC also announced that the next two T20 World Cups will be held in 2021 and 2022. The governing body, however, did not announce who will host the 2021 and 2022 editions of the T20 World Cup.

“At today’s meeting of the IBC Board (the commercial subsidiary of the ICC), windows for the next three ICC men’s events were also agreed to bring clarity to the calendar and give the sport the best possible opportunity over the next three years to recover from the disruption caused by Covid-19,” the ICC statement read.

Fans come up with hilarious reactions:

The postponement of the T20 World Cup has paved the way for this year’s IPL. The thirteenth edition of the IPL was scheduled to take place between March 29 and May 17. However, the BCCI had to suspend the tournament indefinitely in the light of the pandemic.

But with the T20 World Cup postponed, the IPL looks set to be played this year. As per reports, UAE is likely to host the competition. With situation in India showing little signs of improvement, the BCCI has reportedly zeroed in on UAE as the venue for IPL 2020.

Meanwhile, as soon as the ICC announced the decision, a number of fans took to Twitter to post some hilarious tweets.
