It is not everyday that fans take a shot at Sourav Ganguly. The former India skipper is one of the most popular and beloved cricket star in the country thanks to his exploits as captain and a batsman. Sourav Ganguly is one of the most decorated skippers in the history of Indian cricket and is also one of the finest batsmen to have graced the game from India.

But Sourav Ganguly recently faced the heat thanks to his tweet that he posted after India’s loss in the final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. India’s dream of winning their first-ever ICC Women’s T20 World Cup ended in a heartbreaking manner as Australia thrashed them by 85 runs to win a record-extending fifth title.

The much-anticipated tweet match failed to live up to the expectations as Australia thoroughly outplayed Harmanpreet Kaur & Co.Meg Lanning’s decision to bat first turned out to be a right one as Alyssa Healy came out with all guns blazing. She and her fellow opener Beth Mooney set the platform for a big score by adding 103 for the first wicket in less than 12 overs. Healy scored 75 off just 39 balls while Mooney remained unbeaten and scored 78 to ensure the hosts put up a huge total of 184 for 4.

In reply, India came up with a horrible batting display. Unbeaten throughout the tournament, India were all out for just 99. Their in-form batter Shafali Verma was dismissed by Megan Schutt in the very first over of the chase and from thereon, India never looked in contention.

After the game, Sourav Ganguly took to Twitter to encourage the players and praised their journey in the tournament. But to everyone’s surprise, he tagged BCCI secretary Jay Shah in the tweet and the fans did not like that at all.

Here are some of the reactions to Ganguly’s tweet:
