This is perhaps the first time that England have entered a World Cup this century as favourites. England are the only team to have lost three World Cup finals. However, they are being widely tipped to go all the way this year. No team has won more games than them since the conclusion of the last World Cup. Since 2016, they have scored 400 or more runs in an ODI innings thrice while no other team has scored even once.

Currently the best ranked ODI side in the world, England have looked the most dangerous side in recent times. What brightens their chances even more is their incredible record at home. Since the last World Cup, they have only lost nine of 47 ODIs. With form, momentum on their side as well as the home advantage, England do have a huge chance of breaking their World Cup duck.

England’s team, meanwhile, are not represented by only native players.  The European nation has always reaped the benefits of the services of players born in different nations and the current squad is not an exception either.

So here we take a look at players in the current squad who were born in different countries:

Ben Stokes:

One of the best allrounder across formats in the world right now, Stokes was born in New Zealand. In fact, his father also played rugby for New Zealand. However, Stokes and his family shifted to England when he was young. It was in England, Stokes developed a liking for cricket and started honing his skills.

Durham handed him a two-year contract and there has been no looking back since then. Stokes made his England debut as a 19-year old and is now one of the most important members of the team.

Kevin Pietersen, Andrew Struass, Jonathan Trott are some of the South Africa-born players to have represented England and the latest to join this list is Jason Roy. The opening batsman moved to England at the age of ten and started his career.

Roy is one of most important players who have helped England transform their fortunes in ODIs. The right-handed batsman not only gives England quick starts but is also very consistent. He also holds the record of having the highest ever individual score (180) for England in ODIs.

Tom Curran is just another England player who was born in South Africa. The allrounder was born in South Africa’s Cape Town. He first started his journey with County outfit Surrey and made a name for himself with his pace bowling and handy batting down the order.

He is being tipped as a future superstar and the way he is performing at the moment, one can only see Curran doing well in the future. His younger brother Sam also made his England debut last year and made an instant impression. Both the brothers have also played in the Indian Premier League.

Eoin Morgan:

Morgan is one of the handful of cricketers to have played for two nations. Born in Dublin, Morgan started his journey in international country with his native country Ireland. However, the English selectors were impressed by his performance for England Lions against South Africa and he soon got a call. Morgan accepted the proposal and represented England in their victorious campaign at the World T20 in 2009.

A lot depends on him this World Cup as Morgan is eyeing to become the first England captain to lift the World Cup.

Jofra Archer:

England cricketing fraternity was dominated by talks surrounding Jofra Archer before their final World Cup squad was announced. The allrounder has turned heads with his ability to bowl pace. England, however, were lucky to secure his services.

Archer played his Under-19 Cricket for West Indies before things took a bad turn. West Indies Cricket board didn’t acknowledge his talent and failed to give him an opportunity and must have been ruing their decision now. Archer did not wait and joined Sussex.
