Indian cricket has taken giant steps in the last decade and MS Dhoni, as well as Virat Kohli, is part of the successful journey. However, there is no denying the fact that MS Dhoni’s stardom is still bigger than that of the current skipper, Virat Kohli.

Dhoni has been an imperative cog in the Indian cricket wheel and he has been instrumental in the success of the team. MS Dhoni had always led from the front, and he backed his players to the hilt.

Thus, we take a look at the five reasons why MS Dhoni’s stardom is still bigger than Virat Kohli. However, Kohli is also hot on the heels of his former skipper.

Five Reasons Why MS Dhoni Stardom is Still Bigger Than Virat Kohli.

5. Dhoni guided India to three major titles:

MS Dhoni was handed over the captaincy reins in his young days of International cricket. In fact, Dhoni took over the helm when the chips were down after the 2007 World Cup disaster. From there to lift the team to their World T20 crown was commendable.

Dhoni is always given credit for taking India to three major ICC titles. However, MSD had credited the whole team for their effort to come up good in big carnivals of the game.

On the other hand, Kohli is still young in his captaincy tenure. Virat Kohli had guided the Indian team to the Champions Trophy final in 2017. However, India could not go all the way as they lost to Pakistan.

4. Calm and Composed

MS Dhoni is synonyms with calm and composed. The wicketkeeper-batsman always led the Indian team with a sedate nature. Dhoni has taken the most critical decisions of Indian cricket while wearing a cool head on his shoulders.

Dhoni might have felt the pressure on numerous occasions, but the master had never put it on display for the opposition. Thus, this trait has helped him in taking the necessary decisions with great success.

On the other hand, Kohli has his methods and leads aggressively. There is nothing wrong in his approach, but sometimes he can be over-aggressive in his leadership.

3. Lead with Great Success over an extended period.

It is never easy to be in the shoes of a captain, as he has to take on more responsibilities. Furthermore, if you are leading the Indian cricket team, the captaincy comes up with an asterisk of huge expectations. Thus, to carry the captaincy reins for almost a decade with great success is a commendable job.

In fact, Dhoni was never unfazed by the failures he received in his long journey as captain.

India faced ignominious defeats in England and Australia under his tenure as captain. However, he didn’t quit the captaincy when the team had their backs against the wall. Thus, MS Dhoni was able to come up roses in the captaincy stint.

2. Still Taking Imperative Decision and Guiding the Youngsters:

It is noted that MS Dhoni is still setting up the field, as Virat Kohli fields outside the 30-yard circle. Furthermore, Dhoni has all the experience in setting up the right field for a particular batsman.

Furthermore, MS Dhoni is guiding the youngsters to help them take the right road that leads to the destination of ‘success’.

It is always seen that Dhoni keeps telling his spinners where they should bowl at a particular batsman. We have noticed the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have gained massively because of the tutelage of MS Dhoni.

1. Backing Players.

The Indian gloveman MS Dhoni has always backed his players to the hilt. In fact, Dhoni played a big role in giving opportunities to Virat Kohli when the latter was taking baby steps in the international cricket.

Dhoni also the got the better off Rohit Sharma. MS had promoted the flamboyant batsman up the order in 2013 Champions trophy. Since then Rohit has savoured great success while playing in the opening position.

Consequently, we have seen that players perform to the best of their abilities when they have the backing of the skipper. Thus, Dhoni was always able to get the best of his players, as he knew the formula of breaking the barrier.
