Former Canterbury Cricketer receives Sentence for his Child Pornography

A former Canterbury cricketer who dropped his bid to for name suppression has been jailed for the crime of child pornography.

Harley Thomas George was awarded sentence after he admitted his crime in Christchurch District Court.

He was awarded the imprisonment of two years and three months

The 39-year old, George confessed that he was distributing objectionable images online of child sexual abuse. The court handed him the imprisonment of two years and three months.

His criminal activity.

The former cricketer played five first-class matches for Canterbury between 1997 and 2001, was caught in possession 3450 images. He was at present working as a pharmacy technician.

The images caught in his possession displayed sexual orientation with children as young as two years old.

Appeal in the High Court

Brian Callaghan, the District Court judge, lifted James’ interim name suppression when he was handed the sentence last month. However, his lawyer indicated that he would be appealing to High Court.

His appeal got abandoned

The appeal was abandoned, and now he can be named.
He has attended the Rangiora High School and is known for his sporting skills. He is a well-known figure in Canterbury sporting circles.

His absence from the cricket

After being absent from the cricket for around 15 years, he played for Sefton in the Canterbury Country combined premier club cricket competition this year. At first, he was out of touch but later on he displayed what he used to be.

He often snatched the limelight being a top performer with the bat as well as with the ball.

His cricketing career through figures

At his teenage, George was a luxuriant run-getter and starred for Canterbury Country’s Hawke Cup team. He has played five first-class games and has scored 225 runs.

With an average of 25, he has 65 not-out as his career best. Besides this, he has two fifties to his name and has pouched seven catches as well.
