Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) spinner Shadab Jakati has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. The left-arm spinner last played a first-class and List A game for Goa in 2017. His last competitive T20 game came last year when he represented Goa against Andhra in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
The 39-year old made a name for himself after being roped in by Chennai Super Kings. On the pacer friendly pitches of South Africa in 2009, he proved his worth by extracting appreciable turn. During that season, he claimed four-fors in back-to-back games and ended the edition with an impressive 13 wickets as Chennai Super Kings made it to the semifinal.
In the following season, he did even better and took 13 wickets to help Chennai Super Kings win the IPL for the very first time. Chennai Super Kings defended their title in 2011 and Jakati was one again among wickets as he picked up 11 scalps. But he could not maintain the same form in the following seasons. In 2012, he picked up just 9 wickets in 15 games while in 2013, he did not play any game.

In 2014, Royal Challengers Bangalore signed him up but it did not change the spinner’s fortunes. Shadab Jakati played just one game for the Bangalore-based outfit in 2014 before moving to Gujarat Lions in 2016. He played eight games for the now-defunct franchise in two seasons and picked up only two wickets. Overall, Shadab Jakati picked up 47 wickets in 59 IPL games.
First-class career:
Having made his first-class debut in 1998, Shadab Jakati played a total of 92 games. He picked up 275 wickets with the help of 13 five-wicket hauls. He also did well with the bat, scoring 2734 runs with a century and 14 half-centuries. In List A games, Shadab Jakati took 93 wickets in 82 matches while scoring 1,104 runs with the help of four fifties.
