Former India Cricketer Jacob Martin Out of ICU

Former Indian National Cricket team player Jacob Martin is currently out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after spending more than a month in ventilation. Meanwhile, the doctors have finally decided to shift him out of the ventilation.

Martin met with an accident last year on December 28. Since then, the former batsman who played for India between 1999 and 2001 has been on ventilation owing to injuries to his lungs and liver. Jacob Martin received assistance from all quarters, but his wife Khyati revealed that she would need more money in the coming days.

The BCCI has already stepped in to sanction INR 5 lakhs, while the Baroda Cricket Association has contributed INR 3 lakhs. Many former cricketers like Sourav Ganguly, Yusuf Pathan, Krunal Pandya, and Munaf Patel have stepped up to help the former cricketer. Indian Premier League franchise, Chennai Super Kings also donated Rs 3 lakh to raise funds for his treatment. Indian National Cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri also stepped up to sent his contribution from Australia.

Will need more help

Khyati admitted the people have stepped up according to thier capacity; however, she will need more funds in the coming days. In addition to, she also said it is likely that Jacob Martin will stay in the hospital for two more months.

There are people who donated big and there were some who donated small depending upon their capacity. I got help from Indian cricketers, BCCI, Baroda Cricket Association and even Chennai Super Kings but I will be needing more financial assistance in the coming days as chances are that Jacob will be in hospital for two more months,” Khyati said.

Till now, Jacob Martin has received around Rs 16 lakh as assistance from various quarters. The hospital expenses incurred so far have been more than Rs 15 lakh. However, many have promised to help the cricketer in the coming days.

Jacob Martin played 10 ODIs for India and captained Baroda to the Ranji Trophy title in 2001. He was among a handful of players who scored more than 1000 runs in a single Ranji season. He announced his retirement from international cricket in 2009.
