Cricketer-turned-coach Dav Whatmore has echoed their captain Virat Kohli’s words concerning the balance of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). RCB has been one of the most underperforming sides in IPL history, having not lifted the title a single time so far despite having strong squads mostly every year. However, Virat Kohli reckons that his current team is the most balanced since 2016, and Dav Whatmore feels the same.

The Bangalore-based franchise could not finish their campaign above sixth on the last three occasions and ended last in 2017 and 2019. Mainly, the side’s death bowling has been their Achilles Heel while there prevails overdependence on captain Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers. Nevertheless, ahead of the upcoming edition in the UAE, the franchise has taken steps to rectify the same by roping in some credible bowlers and experienced batsmen.

Dav Whatmore feels that RCB has a better balance in this edition of IPL, labelling Virat Kohli as a class player. The former Australian cricketer backed Kohli to shine even without the crowd and that empty stands would not affect his gameplay.

There are a few, but RCB has a better balance in this edition of the IPL…Virat Kohli is a class player. He plays to win, crowd or no crowd, he will shine,” Whatmore told News Indian Express.

The former Kolkata Knight Riders’ coach backed spinners to play a crucial role in the UAE while smart pacemen with good variations will also be effective. He expects all the spin-bowlers to perform well and leggie Yuzvendra Chahal to lead the spin-bowling department of RCB.

Spinners will always have an important part to play. But smart pacers with good variations will also be effective…It is difficult for batsmen to read the (Sunil Narine’s) spin. He’s accurate and varies speed as well…I expect all the spinners to do well, perhaps leggie Yuzvendra Chahal may lead the group,” the 66-year old added.
