Former Australia all-rounder Andrew McDonald is in line to be named as the head coach of Rajasthan Royals. As per a report in The Age, he has undergone the application process for the job. It is to be noted that a report in the Telegraph.co.uk had suggested that Rajasthan Royals were also in talks with Andy Flower.

As of now, the names of these cricketers have emerged for the job and one of them looks set to take over the job at the Rajasthan-based franchise.

McDonald, if appointed, will be up for his second assignment at IPL. He was earlier associated with Royal Challengers Bangalore but the team management rang changes after IPL 2018 which saw the likes of Daniel Vettori, McDonald and Trent Woodhill leave the franchise.

McDonald has a good report as a coach in Australian domestic cricket. He coached Victoria to title wins in List A tournament and Sheffield Shield apart from coaching Melbourne Renegades to title triumph. The experienced campaigner looks favourite to be given the job.

He will replace Paddy Upton in the position, who had taken over the job before IPL 2019. After one season, the franchise has decided to remove him. Led by Ajinkya Rahane and Steven Smith during the season, Rajasthan Royals finished at the seventh spot in the points table.

The franchise is expected to make an announcement regarding the new coach soon as the auction for the next season of the league will be taking place in December in Kolkata.

It is yet to be known whether the franchise will trade Rahane to Delhi Capitals or not. A few months back, a report in IANS had suggested that the two franchise were in talks but there has been no update as of yet.

Rahane led Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2018 and continued the role in IPL 2019 but was replaced by Smith mid-way season. When the former Australia captain left the tournament early for World Cup 2019, Rahane was back in the captaincy role.
