Former United Arab Emirates skipper Amjad Javed has announced his retirement from international cricket on December 22 (Saturday). Meanwhile, Javed says he hopes to retain some involvement in UAE cricket following his retirement from cricket. He represented his country in 15 ODIs and 22 T20Is.

The all-rounder made his first-class debut in 2006 when UAE took on Namibia. He was one of the notable performers for UAE in the 2015 World Cup. Javed scored 42 runs and took 3 for 60 against Ireland in a game. But his excellent effort went in vain as Ireland won the thriller by two wickets. Moreover, Amjad also slammed 63 off just 31 deliveries to help his side qualify for the World Cup in 2015.

In addition to, Amjad Javed overall has appeared in 81 List A games and 15 first-class games along with 15 ODIs and T20Is. He had scored close to 2,000 runs and picked up 154 wickets in all. However, the all-rounder revealed his retirement decision on Twitter. He wrote that it was not easy to take the step before thanking the UAE board and the ICC.

“Never easy but it’s time to take retirement from UAE cricket and enjoy watching it as a fan. Would like to thanks @EmiratesCricket @ACCMedia1 @ICC for providing a platform to lead and represent UAE at the highest level,” wrote Javed.

Speaking to Sport 360, the 38-year old spoke about his decision to retire from international cricket. He said that he is not getting a spot in the team and the nation is doing well than before with the current players.

“It is never easy when you have to call it a day. You have to decide at what time you need to retire. At the moment, the team is doing better than two years back. I can’t find a place in the team. Nothing motivates me to push myself and fight for that position,” he said.

Furthermore, Amjad Javed thanked all his teammates including his skipper Khurram Khan and coach Aaqib for their support during his career.

“I thank coach Aaqib and captain Khurram Khan for pushing me and motivating me. I have already achieved the goals I had set for myself as a UAE-born player. I am quite happy with my career,” Javed concluded.
