Former India batsman Gautam Gambhir perfectly summed up Team India’s thumping win over Pakistan in World Cup on Sunday. The legendary opener called it a total domination as India made light work of their arch-rivals in Manchester. While India lost the toss, they thoroughly outplayed Pakistan in all the departments.

India never looked under pressure during the high-pressure game and the result was there for everyone to see. Asked to bat first, India posted a huge total of 336 for 5. Openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul laid the platform for the big total of 336 for 5 by adding 136 runs for the first wicket. The partnership ended when Wahab Riaz sent back Rahul for 57. But Rohit went on to make the most of his start and smashed a breathtaking 140 while Virat Kohli scored 77 as India score big.

In reply, Pakistan started disastrously by losing Imam-ul-Haq cheaply. Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam then revived their hopes by taking the score past the 100-run mark. However, once Kuldeep castled Babar, there was no looking back. Pakistan soon slipped from 117 for 1 to 129 for 5. They eventually finished their innings on 212 for 6 in the rain-affected match.

“I think they outplayed us in the Champions Trophy final, but apart from that we have played good cricket against them. If you focus on this game with too much emotion, things can go haywire. We never approach these games from the fans’ atmosphere, but as cricketers we need to be professional and understand what needs to be done on the field,” said Kohli after the match.

After the game ended, Gautam Gambhir took to Twitter to sum up the entire contest. Gambhir, who helped India beat Pakistan twice in the 2007 World T20 and the 2011 World Cup, pointed out India’s record against Pakistan in the World Cup, tweeting:

“Runs, Rain and total domination.. It’s #7-0 ?? Jai hind.”
