Gautam Gambhir becomes the latest person to hail the addition of Sourav Ganguly to Board of Control for Cricket in India. The former swashbuckling opening batsman believes Ganguly will change the fate of the board if he continues in the role for a longer period.

Ganguly is all set to be selected unanimously as the new BCCI president. The former India captain filed his proposal for the coveted post on Monday at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. He was attended by former BCCI administrators Niranjan Shah and N Srinivasan as he became the only nominee to file the nomination.

It is a pleasant aberration:

Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir, In his column for TOI, writes that it is a ‘pleasant aberration’ to have Ganguly in the important post. The Delhi-born cricketer is also elated that the Indian cricket will be headed by someone who understands the eco-system.

“Indian cricket has been scoring winners across the board. For starters, former India captain Sourav Ganguly being announced as the next BCCI president is a big leap taken by Indian cricket. Normally, BCCI functioning is seen as regressive and opaque. However, this unprecedented move to have a former cricketer in this important post is a pleasant aberration,” Gambhir wrote in his column for Times of India.

Sourav Ganguly’s administrative skills will be Tested – Gautam Gambhir

Ganguly put faith in youngsters like Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan, Virender Sehwag, MS Dhoni and several others, who would go on to become superstars of Indian cricket. Now, he once again enters to take the role, which is becoming a problem of concern for Indian Cricket.

“I don’t know how it happened. And also, I am not keen on knowing it either. I am just glad that Indian cricket will be headed by someone who understands the eco-system. The changes he has brought about at Cricket Association of Bengal is a clear indication that Dada is not merely a former cricketer who’d bring on-field changes. His administrative skills will be tested but if I know Dada well, his ability of inclusive growth will hold him in good stead. But I just hope that Dada gets more than 10 months to perform otherwise it will be a wasted exercise.”

Well, Ganguly was instrumental in creating a new culture in Indian cricket. And also, he was responsible for a drastic change in the way India played Test cricket outside the sub-continent. He guided the team to the 2003 ICC World Cup final.
