DDCA Elections Rajat Sharma
Gautam Gambhir says the election of new DDCA president Rajat Sharma would benefit Delhi Cricket.

Veteran batsman Gautam Gambhir has absolutely savaged former India internationals and Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) selectors Bishan Singh Bedi and Chetan Chauhan after the selection of fast bowler Navdeep Saini in the Indian team for the One-off Test against Afghanistan.

Gambhir’s message turned out to be a sarcastic dig at the duo as they had expressed their reservations over Saini’s selection in the Delhi Ranji Team in 2013.

The selectors were considering him an outsider from Haryana and were thus not willing to select him in the team.

However, Gambhir and some other senior players had fully supported Saini and the selectors had to finally bow down.

Well, four years after that turbulent period, Saini totally justified his senior teammates’ faith in him. He finished last season as Delhi highest wicket-taker, helping the side reach the grand finale of the Ranji Trophy.

The pacer finished the season with 34 wickets in eight games. The stunning show helped Saini to earn his maiden call-up from the national team. He was initially not named in the squad but finally made it after Mohammed Shami was dropped on fitness grounds.

“My ‘condolences’ to few DDCA members, @BishanBedi @ChetanChauhanCr on selection of ‘outsider’ Navdeep Saini to India squad. Am told black armbands are available in Bangalore too for INR 225 per roll!!! Sir, just remember Navdeep is an Indian first then comes his domicile @BCCI,” Gambhir wrote.

Meanwhile, in a recent interview, Saini revealed how Gambhir and other seniors stood by him when the selectors were not considering him for selection.

“Gautam bhaiya told me “Jaise tennis ball se dalta hai, waise hi dal. Koi tension nahi. Baaki sab theek ho jayega (Just bowl like you bowl with a tennis ball. Everything will fall in place). I did what he told me and today I am here because of him. I don’t know whenever I speak about Gautam Gambhir, I get emotional,” Saini told PTI.

“Remember every tiny little thing. I know what Gautam bhaiya had to go through to convince selectors that I was good enough to play for Delhi. Not to forget Ashish Nehra, Mithun Manhas, Sumit Narwal, who all stood by me,” he added.
