Gautam Gambhir, India’s 2011 World Cup final hero, set an fine example of humanity by performing the last rites of his domestic help in the lockdown situation. According to media reports, the cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir performed the last rites of his domestic help after her mortal remains could not be send to her homed in Odisha due to lockdown situation forced due to novel coronavirus pandemic.
Reports suggested that Saraswati Patra was working as a domestic help at Gautam Gambhir’s residence for the last seven years. She was 49-year-old and a resident of Kusunpur village in the Jajpur district of Odisha.

The entire country is under lockdown due to the pandemic situation. Aeroplane and train services have been stopped till May 3 and might get extended. In this situation, it was nearly impossible for Gambhir to sent the mortal remains of her domestic help back to her hometown.
Gambhir tweeted that it was his duty to perform the last rites as she was family. The former India opener said she always used to take care of his daughter and believes in dignity irrespective of caste, creed, religion or social status. He also said, it is a ‘way to create a better society’.
“Taking care of my little one can never be domestic help. She was family. Performing her last rites was my duty. Always believed in dignity irrespective of caste, creed, religion or social status. Only way to create a better society. That’s my idea of India! Om Shanti,” Gautam Gambhir tweeted.
