Gautam Gambhir, the unsung hero of 2011 World Cup, drew a lot of flak from fans on twitter for his remarks on MS Dhoni’s match-winning six in the final. In the reminiscence of the 2011 World Cup triumph, espncricinfo tweeted a picture of MS Dhoni’s six, to which Gambhir replied “Just a reminder @ESPNcricinfo: #worldcup2011 was won by entire India, entire Indian team & all support staff. High time you hit your obsession for a SIX.”
The comments did not go well among the fans as they roasted Gautam Gambhir all ends up.
“Gautam Gambhir wants credit”
Cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir was at the receiving end as many overlooked his 97-run contribution in the final. “Gautam Gambhir is a guy who would help her daughter with homework and next day reach her school demanding credit for it,” one of the fan tweeted.
“on this day in 2011 Gambhir and his fans started crying and then never stopped,” another said.
“Gambhir finishes off in style! A magnificent strike into the crowd. India lift the World Cup after 28 years,” a third fan taunted.

True. But they never said this shot won us the worldcup. They are only saying this shot took Indians into jubilation. Relax kijiye cricket ke Advaniji.

As a professional this seems little salty mate, they're just saying that this shot finished the game for India and we won. Of course we won World Cup with everyone's contribution and everyone deserves the credit equally! You played a gem of knock that night, and people know that.

Sorry Gambhir. This will always be the defining image of India’s 2011 WC win. Of course many players contributed towards the team’s success in the tournament, including you.
This image is not about what Dhoni did, it’s about what this moment signifies to a billion people ?? https://t.co/JXEwcHjvMD

Gautam Gambhir also received support from fans
In the final, India were reeling at 31/2, when Gambhir stepped in to bat and steadied India’s ship. His cautious knock of 122-ball and key partnerships with Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni enabled India to fight back in the chase after losing two early wickets.
A lot of fans also came out in support for Gautam Gambhir. Check out their comments here:
The winning shot will always be the cover pic, Because that shot makes it clear we win the WC, Doesn't mean we are not considering anyone else effort, Guess everyone respect Gambhir's knock in the final & infact each & everyone's effort, That tweet was just unnecessary from Gauti

Don't forget that Gambhir played a crucial knock of 97 runs. He deserves a special mention as well.
