Gautam Gambhir has returned to his hometown based IPL franchise Delhi Daredevils after a gap of seven years.
The former Kolkata Knight Riders captain has played Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders in the previous IPL seasons. Gambhir led the Kolkata based franchise to two IPL title in 2012 and 2014.
KKR did not retain the left-handed opening batsman in the IPL retention. The overlooked Indian batsman has been in the average form off late.
Gambhir has played 148 matches and has scored 4132 runs at an average of 31.78.
Gambhir has great experience of leading a side in the Indian Premier League as he led Kolkata Knight Riders in the last six seasons.
The Daredevils will try to extract most out of Gambhir’s leadership quality as they have appointed him as their leader for the upcoming season of the IPL.
Delhi Daredevils have strengthened their side this time as they have made some smart purchases in the IPL auctions. One of the strongest players they have bought is the Kiwi fast bowler Trent Boult.
Boult’s captain in the IPL has praised the left-arm fast bowler. Gambhir said:
“I believe Boult is the best left arm fast bowler in the world right now. People do talk a lot about Mitchell Starc as well but Trent Boult on the given day can be as lethal as anyone else in the world. He can swing the ball at 135 Km/ph.”
