Delhi Capitals’ opener Shikhar Dhawan’s first half of IPL 2020 did not pan out as desired; however, he is sizzling in the second half. Shikhar Dhawan’s 471 runs in IPL 2020 is only the second-highest in the tournament, which he has scored at a strike rate of 148.11 and average of 58.87. In the process, the southpaw recorded two consecutive centuries, which Gautam Gambhir acknowledged as a huge achievement.

Shikhar Dhawan became the first player in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL) to record two consecutive centuries in a season. The southpaw notched those tons against Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab. Dhawan’s hundred against the Super Kings in a winning cause came while chasing 180 in Sharjah; however, it resulted in a losing effort against KXIP in Dubai.

Gautam Gambhir was impressed by Shikhar Dhawan’s achievement since he became the first Indian player and the first batsman to do so. He underlined that two centuries on the bounce in the shortest format of the game is not an easy task.

First thing, the record itself is a huge achievement! No other Indian has done it. In fact, no other player has done it in the IPL. Two back to back hundreds, that too in a T20 format,” Gautam Gambhir said in the Star Sports Show Cricket Live.

The cricketer-turned-politician further said that the speciality of both the innings is that they have come when the Delhi Capitals needed him to peak. Gambhir feels that the team’s most experienced batsman contributing in crucial junctures of the competition would be a massive boost for them. The Capitals will turn their attention to SunRisers Hyderabad, whom they face in Dubai on Tuesday. A victory will get them through to the playoffs.

The more important thing about these two centuries, is the timing, the time at which they have come, when the Delhi Capitals need to peak. If your most experienced batsman peaks at this moment and is in his best form, then it’s an advantage for DC,” he added.
