Gautam Gambhir is the latest addition in the Twitter thread Test great VVS Laxman has created to pay tribute to the finest Indian cricketers. The hearty tribute for Gautam Gambhir comes after he paid homage to former India fast bowler Ashish Nehra and 2011 World Cup winning captain MS Dhoni.
Gambhir is, perhaps, the finest openers to donned the Indian jersey. His partnerships with Virender Sehwag often laid the foundation for the national team and allowed them to chase down daunting targets. One of his most memorable knocks came in the 2011 World Cup, where he held his fort and foughtback after early setbacks.

Gautam Gambhir never shied away from a challenge on a cricket field: VVS Laxman
Gautam Gambhir took control of the match after India lost Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar early in the World Cup 2011 final. He made sure to keep the run scoring rate easy before handing over the baton to MS Dhoni. In the process, Gambhir notched up 97 runs in the final showdown.
VVS Laxman has seen the rise of Gambhir closely. He believes the former India opener never shied away from taking challenges on the cricket field. Laxman also added that Gambhir took stands for his ???teammates??? and did not knew how to back down.

???Massively inquisitive and totally obsessed with the game, @GautamGambhir never shied away from a challenge on a cricket field. Whether it was taking on express pace bowlers on spicy tracks overseas or standing up for a wronged teammate, he knew not what it was to back down,??? VVS Laxman tweeted.
