Senior India cricketer, Gautam Gambhir will work as an observer for the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), newly elected president Rajat Sharma confirmed. Meanwhile, Rajat defeated former India cricketer Madan Lal by 517 votes to win the election.

Sharma earned 54.40 percent of votes in his favour. However, the election placed between June 27 to 30 with the results coming out on July 2 (Monday.)

Furthermore, Rakesh Kumar Bansal will be the vice-president with 48.87 percent votes to his favour. He surpassed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) acting president, CK Khanna’s wife, Shashi by 278 votes.

Gautam Gambhir is a member of the board and he will work as an observer,” he told reporters.

As a result, Gambhir will take all the key cricketing decisions as part of his profile. Secretary Tihara also sounded in the same line admitting they have grand plans for Gambhir.

The elected members will look after administrative side but cricketing decisions will be taken by cricketer. Gautam is one of the biggest names in Delhi cricket. It’s only natural, he will play a major role. You can put it on record, Gautam will take all policy decisions with regards to cricket,” Tihara said.

The secretary also revealed Gambhir would decide who will constitute the Cricket Affairs Committee.

Currently, Madan Lal, who lost the presidential elections, is the head of CAC but it is unlikely he will continue.

We want former players like Mithun Manhas to also get involved in cricketing decisions along with Director of Cricket Sanjay Bhardwaj,” Tihara concluded.
