Veteran India batsman Gautam Gambhir has won hearts with his special gesture ahead of the auspicious festival of Raksha Bandhan.

Rakha Bandhan is an Indian festival centred around tying of a thread, bracelet or talisman on the wrist as a form of bond and ritual protection.  The sisters ties the thread on their brother’s arm and in return it is said that the brother promises to always protect her.

So while the whole country is gearing up to celebrate the festival with their dear and near ones, Gambhir broke the barriers with an inspiring gesture. The left-handed batsman shared a special moment with transgenders as they tied rakhis on Gambhir’s wrist.

The World Cup-winner then took to Twitter to share a few snaps of that special moment, writing:

“It’s not about being a man or a woman. It’s about being a HUMAN.” With proud transgenders Sabina Aher and Simran Shaikh and their Rakhi love on my hand. I’ve accepted them as they are. Will you?”

For quite some time now, Gambhir has been drawing praise from all over for his noble deeds. Last year, he had pledged to bear the full expenses of the children of 25 CRPF personnel killed by Maoists in Chhattisgarh. He had also opened a community kitchen in Delhi through the Gautam Gambhir Foundation.

International career:

Gambhir’s international career is completely off the track at the moment. His last appearance for India came against England in Rajkot, the first one of the five-Test series in the year 2016. Gambhir had got the call after KL Rahul suffered an injury in the first Test of the home season against New Zealand.

The southpaw had warmed the bench in Kolkata Test and got the chance only after Shikhar Dhawan got injured. Gambhir played the Indore Test and scored 7o. However, his comeback lasted just two Tests as he was dropped from the team after failing to impress.

Earlier this year, he had a forgettable outing in the Indian Premier League. Gambhir sensationally stepped down as Delhi Daredevils’ skipper after his side’s dismal start to the season. Under his captaincy, the Daredevils managed a solitary win in six games. Another reason behind Gambhir’s decision to step down was his poor returns with the bat. He started the season on a brilliant note, scoring 55 against Kings XI Punjab.

However, his performance dipped after that. In the next four innings, he was dismissed for single-digit score thrice. Overall, he managed to score only 85 runs in five innings despite scoring a fifty in the very first game for his old-franchise.
