Not a long ago, Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell took an indefinite break from international cricket and that too midway through the Sri Lanka series citing mental health issues. He also made himself unavailable for the home series against Pakistan. CA’s Support Team psychologist Dr Michael Lloyd, in an official statement, said that Glenn Maxwell was facing some difficulties over his mental health and which is why he had to take a break from the game.

Maxwell identified the issues he had been facing and also conveyed the same with support staff before spending a short time off the field. Now, Glenn Maxwell believes that the indefinite break he took from cricket to tackle his mental health is behind his sensational form in the ongoing edition of the Big Bash League (BBL).

Glenn Maxwell thankful to Cricket Australia

The 31-year-old all-rounder had previously admitted that he was mentally and physically disturbed before he eventually decided to take a break where he spent time with his friends and family. He also went on to thank the board for granting him a much-needed break so as to get himself right.

“I’m so thankful that Cricket Australia and all the powers that we’re able to grant me that break and get myself right. I think I’m starting to see the benefits now, I’ve got no demons in my head. I’ve been able to get everything off my chest and been able to deal with things better.

I’m still talking to people about managing different parts of my life and making sure I’ve still got that balance. It’s nice to be a bit more relaxed when I’m batting. I don’t have anything going in the back of my mind, I don’t have any of these other thoughts. It’s been nice and calm out there,” he was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

Australia’s all-rounder, who set his highest base price at INR 2 crore ahead of the auction became the second expensive signing at the IPL 2020 auction held in Kolkata after he was drafted in by Kings XI Punjab for a massive price tag of INR 10.75 crore.

Meanwhile, Maxwell has finally returned to competitive cricket after taking an indefinite break from the game. Glenn Maxwell is not part of the Australia squad which will be taking on India in the three-match ODI series. The first match scheduled to be played on January 14 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
