Glenn Maxwell was the man of the series in Australia’s ODI series victory in England and will have to play to his potential again when his side squares off against India. India begin their tour of Australia with the three-match ODI series, starting on the 27th of November in Sydney. Glenn Maxwell counts Rohit Sharma’s absence from the limited-overs squad as a positive; however, chooses not to underestimate them, especially with the presence of KL Rahul.

Instead of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul would be Virat Kohli’s deputy in the white-ball series. The BCCI decided to rest Rohit Sharma from the limited-overs leg, allowing him time to recover from the niggles to be fit for the Test series. Nevertheless, KL Rahul has been in a scintillating form, having bagged the Orange Cap in IPL 2020 with 670 runs at 55.83. Furthermore, the 28-year old has also grown well as a leader during his captaincy stint with Kings XI Punjab.

Glenn Maxwell hailed Rohit Sharma as a top-class performer, having been consistent with three double-centuries under his belt. According to Maxwell, the 33-year old’s absence certainly gives Australia a slight edge.

“He (Rohit) is a class performer, so consistent as an opening batsman with a couple of (three) double hundreds. So anytime he is not in the line-up against you, it is a positive,” Glenn Maxwell said in a virtual media interaction.

At the same time, Glenn Maxwell refuses to underestimate the threat that India’s batting depth possesses. The Victorian, who played under KL Rahul in Kings XI Punjab, underlined that the captain’s performance was outstanding and any position he plays in, he will perform well.

But in saying that, India have still got back-ups, more than capable of playing that role. We saw KL Rahul, the performance that he put on during the last IPL was extraordinary. Whether he opens the batting or not, I am sure he will be just as good a player,” the 32-year old added.
