Australia’s destructive batsman Glenn Maxwell has said that he isn’t bothered by the short ball anymore. Maxwell has made a return to cricket after he left it in October 2019 citing mental health issues. He has, however, began his comeback in the domestic Twenty20 competition — the Big Bash League (BBL). His return to international cricket is still due.

The explosive middle-order batsman has been in decent form in this season’s BBL. His performances have earned him a call from the national ODI and T20I side. He will travel to South Africa along with the Kangaroos later this month.

Glenn Maxwell Speaks Up On The Short Ball:

The right-handed batsman has revealed he knew that short balls were his weakness and he has now worked on it and developed himself to face them with ease.

“I think I’ve shown during this BBL that it doesn’t really faze me that much at the moment,” Maxwell said of the short ball.

“I know that in one-day cricket you get a few extra bumpers an over, that’s fine. But it was probably something I did need to address, and when you have so much scrutiny it can be quite wearing on you. You’re trying hard, trying to find a way to fix it,” Maxwell added.

Maxwell also revealed as to what forced him to take a break?

Maxwell said, “I wouldn’t say I pencilled anything in this year,” he said. “Last year and where I got to mentally, I probably thought ahead a lot, I thought deep into the future and all of a sudden you stop thinking about the now. I’ve literally just been going – as bad a cliché as it is – one game at a time and just making sure I’m putting 100% of my concentration and energy into the next game that I play and I think that’s been showing dividends.”

Maxwell has been the power hitter for Australia in the limited-overs format. His presence largely matters to the Kangaroos. Australia were lacking firepower in their middle-order.

Now, that Maxwell is back, we can expect the Kangaroos to put some huge totals on the scoreboard.
