Rohit Sharma had a great start to his Test career as an opener in the first Test against South Africa. He scored twin centuries in Visakhapatnam to grab the headlines. However, the star opener failed to replicate his efforts in the second Test. Despite that, former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir urged the team management to handle the talented cricketer with love and care.

The Mumbai-born opener made a spectacular return with twin centuries in Visakhapatnam. The Mumbai-born cricketer scored 176 runs in the first innings to stitch a record-breaking 317 runs partnership with Mayank Agarwal. Rohit Sharma then backed it up with another century in the second innings.

Ever since then, Rohit has been in the headlines as many saw the long-term solution to India top-order problems. Gautam Gambhir feels the swashbuckling opener has all the abilities to chase and win Test matches for India as Virender Sehwag did. He also urged the management to take good care of him to get the best out.

“I have no apprehensions in declaring him as the most dangerous and the best batsman in the world today. Like Virender Sehwag, Rohit too can set up and chase Test wins for India. Just handle him with care and lots of love,” Gambhir wrote in TOI.

Furthermore, Gautam Gambhir hailed the team management for not changing Rohit Sharma’s mindset and allowing him to play his natural way. The cricketer-turned-politician also said he is glad that Rohit did what he knows the best.

“Whoever advised Rohit Sharma to play his natural game in Test matches was my man of the match. It is easy to get Rohit to get into a defensive mode just because it is Test cricket. But I am glad Rohit didn’t follow stereotypes and instead brought out the game that he knows best,” he concluded.
