India created history in the fifth One-day International in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday. The visitors won the match by 73 runs and simultaneously registered their first-ever bilateral series win against South Africa. India went into the match with a 3-1 lead when they just needed one win for the series glory. Hardik Pandya played his major part with the ball.

Registering first ton in the Rainbow Nation, Rohit Sharma scored his 17th ODI century, as he guided India to 274 for seven in their 50 overs.

Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli made some useful contributions at the top-of-the-order as they both scored 36 runs.

Only lanky pacer Lungi Ngidi looked to trouble the Indian batsmen as he picked up four wickets for 51 runs in his 9 overs.

South Africa was bowled out for 201 in just 42.2 overs with the spinners doing a bulk of the damage. Hashim Amla was top-scorer for the hosts with 71 runs. However, he couldn’t continue to win the match for his side.

Hardik Pandya failed with the bat as he was dismissed for a golden duck. However, he made up for this dismal performance with the ball as he picked up the crucial wickets of JP Duminy and AB De Villiers.

Pandya bowled nine overs and gave away just 30 runs.

The team members are proud of the way they have played in the series and took to Twitter to express their happiness and hunger for more success. Hardik Pandya also took to Twitter and wrote:

“History was made last night. Great spirit and grit got us over the line and now we keep marching ahead! @imVkohli @ajinkyarahane88”
