In one of their latest quizzes, the apex body of cricket posted a question on the relevance of Pandya’s previous jersey number 228. One of the most swashbuckling all-rounders of the present era, Hardik Pandya’s dynamism in the field makes him very entertaining. The Baroda all-rounder has been a vital part of Mumbai Indians’ squad since 2015 and has starred for them in three IPL victories. The bad-boy look that he dons along with taking apart bowlers at will has garnered a massive fan-following.

Cricketing fans reveal the reason behind the Hardik Pandya’s magical jersey number:
Meanwhile, when asked the question about the jersey number 228, it remained a mystery to some of the cricketing fans. However, some others managed to crack it. When the 26-year old was part of the Baroda U-16 side, he scored an impressive double-century as a captain of the team. The elusive innings of 228 from 391 balls in the space of eight hours came against Mumbai U-16 side at the Reliance Cricket Stadium in Nagothane during the 2009 edition of the competition.
The double hundred is his only one so far of his entire career. If not for the current lockdown period, Pandya would have been plying his trade for the defending champions Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Pandya recovered from long trail of injuries that he sustained back in September to be part of the home ODI series against South Africa.
@hardikpandya7 used to sport a jersey no 228 because when he played for Baroda U-16 team , he had scored 228(1st class highest) against Mumbai when his team was reeling at 60/4. So he use the Same jersey no for his IPL franchise (ironically it is Mumbai)as well as for Team India

Hardik Pandya's only double century of his career (so far!) .. 228 (run out) for Baroda U16 against Mumbai U16 at Reliance Cricket Stadium, Nagothane on 9/10 Dec 2009 in the Vijay Merchant U16 Trophy tournament 2009/10. He was captain then!
