Harmanpreet Kaur, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal bag big at ESPNCricinfo awards

Harmanpreet Kaur bagged the women’s batting Performance of the Year honour for her superlative effort during 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup in England and Wales. Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal were rewarded for their brilliant effort in the men’s category at the ESPNCricinfo annual Awards.

Further, India bagged three out of the 12 awards on offer, the most by any cricketing nation.

Women’s Awards:

Kaur’s magnificent 171* against Australia in the World Cup got her the women’s batting performance of the year award. Also, India ended the tournament as runners-up losing to England by nine runs following Anya Shrubsole brilliance with the ball.

However, this is the second time ESPNcricinfo has had awards for batting and bowling in women’s cricket.

England Heather Knight won the Captain of the Year award. However, this is the first time this award went to a female player. Knight guided England to wins in nine out of 12 ODIs, including the World Cup title.

Meanwhile, Anya Shrubsole won the women’s bowling performance of the Year. She returned with six for 46, as England lifted the World Cup title against India.

Men’s Awards:

Leg-spinner Chahal got best Twenty20 Bowling Performance of the Year for his outstanding effort of six for 25. He achieved this feat against England at Bengaluru.

Kuldeep burst into the Test scene with his stupendous effort against Australia at Dharamsala. Since then, he has become an integral part of the Indian set up. Also, he grabbed 43 wickets across three formats in 2017.

Steve Smith’s 109 against India at Pune won the Test performance of the year. Meanwhile, Smith has had an outstanding run with the bat in 2017.

However, Nathan Lyon’s 8 for 50 against India at Bengaluru won him the best bowling performance in Test cricket.

Evin Lewis picked up the T20I batting performance of the year award for his 125 not out against India in Kingston. Windies eventually won the match by nine wickets.

Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Amir got rewarded for their performance during the ICC Champions Trophy. They led Pakistan to the much-coveted trophy.

Meanwhile, an 18-member independent jury, including former cricket giants such as Ian Chappell, Ramiz Raja, Courtney Walsh, Mark Butcher, Daryll Cullinan, Russel Arnold, and former umpire Simon Taufel among others selected the winners.
