India entered its first-ever ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 final without a ball being bowled in the semi-final due to the torrential downpour. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led squad qualified ahead of England because the team won all its matches in the group stage and finished on top of the respective group.

India and England captains – Harmanpreet and Heather Knight were both left disappointed at the lack of a reserve day after their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup semi-final on Thursday (March 5), was abandoned due to incessant rains in Sydney.

India captain Harmanpreet said it was unfortunate that the world cup semi-final was washed out and pointed that having reserve days in the future will be a great idea.

Harmanpreet also credited her team for winning all group games after India made it to the final on the virtue of collecting more points than their opponents in the group stage.

“Unfortunate we didn’t get a game, but there are rules and we have to follow it. Having reserve days in the future will be a great idea. From day 1, we knew we have to win all the games because in case the semis don’t happen, that would be hard for us. In that sense, credit to the team for winning all the games,” Harmanpreet Kaur said after the match was washed out.

India defeated hosts Australia, Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka in their group to make it to the semi-finals undefeated.

As per the ICC rules, both innings needed to have at least ten overs to constitute a match.
