Harsha Bhogle and Sanjay Manjrekar were involved in a heated exchange of words while commentating during the just-concluded second Test between India and Bangladesh. India thrashed Bangladesh by an innings and 46 runs to kickstart their journey in day-night Test on a great note. With the win, India also swept the two-match series.

India were in control of the game right from the start since losing the toss. Bangladesh boldly decided to bat first on a lively track at the Eden Gardens and paid the price for the same. The tourists were all out for a paltry 106 in the first innings. Ishant Sharma starred with the ball in the first innings by picking up five wickets. He was well supported by his fellow pacers as Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami picked up three and two wickets respectively.

India captain Virat Kohli then scored a century as the hosts declared their innings after scoring 347 for 9. Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane also scored handy fifties. The pacers then once again made life difficult for Bangladesh. Umesh Yadav picked up five while Ishant accounted for four as the hosts restricted the beleaguered hosts to just 195 to register the thumping win.

Bhogle – Manjrekar spat:

While the mood was upbeat around Eden Gardens as India were heading towards the win, commentators Harsha Bhogle and Sanjay Manjrekar caught everyone’s attention with a bizarre spat. The two were talking about the visibility of the pink balls when things got out of control. It all started when Harsha Bhogle opined that consulting the players should be the best option to get the views on pink ball.

“When there is a post-mortem done of this match, the visibility of the ball will be one of the things to look at,” said Harsha Bhogle.

However, Manjrekar, who played 37 Tests and 74 One-Day Internationals for India, disagreed with Bhogle’s statement.

“Don’t think so. Don’t think visibility is an issue,” commented Manjrekar before adding that those who watch the game can also draw conclusions from outside.

Bhogle continued to insist on the need for listening to what the players have to say. This is where the ex-India cricketer and told Bhogle

“You need to ask perhaps, for us, those who have played the game, we have a fair idea of what’s happening out there.”

At this point, the two commentators were almost talking over each other, even as Al-Amin Hossain played a shot through mid-wicket for four. Manjrekar was not done yet as he sarcastically said that the lower-order batsman saw the ball well enough there. In response, Bhogle hit back by saying: “having played cricket should never be a limitation or a ceiling to learning.”
