Following his analysis for Mumbai Indians, notable cricket commentator-cum-expert Harsha Bhogle, revealed his five defining moments for Chennai Super Kings in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL). As the cricketing fanatics miss the IPL tournament dearly, Harsha Bhogle decided to keep the fans engaged with his analysis. Here are the five defining moments of CSK as per Bhogle.
5. All Hail The ”Thala” MS Dhoni:
Harsha Bhogle started it with once in a generation kind of player MS Dhoni, who led Chennai Super Kings to success more often than not in the IPL history. He chose title victories in 2010 and 2011 as one of the defining moments for CSK. Bhogle hailed the astute captaincy of MS Dhoni, who is still the only captain to lead the team in two back-to-back title victories.
4. Captain ”Not So Cool” :
How many times can you recall MS Dhoni suggest anything close to ’emotions’ on the field? Emotions that are hidden away in solid containers, especially while playing matches. In this particular game, while ‘Captain Cool’ did his usual task of finishing matches, he punches the side of his helmet after the win, rather than an indifferent walk back to the pavilion.
Two-time semi-finalists by then, CSK were eyeing to make it a ritual and enter the third season’s semi-finals as well. Chasing 193, it all boiled down to 16 runs off 6 balls with MS Dhoni and Albie Morkel in the crease. As ever, Dhoni finished it in style.
Following the knock, Dhoni seemed pumped, like never before, after that six. He punched the side of his helmet, his aggression oozing out in the form of some screaming words.
3. A chapter to forget:
Then, Harsha Bhogle spoke about the tough times of CSK when CSK owner Meiyappan was arrested in 2013 for cheating and forgery. Further, the name of MS Dhoni also used on the headlines, which didn’t go well. The proofs and pieces of evidence were against CSK, which saw them being banned for a couple of years.
2. A heist to remember:
Bhogle feels Chennai lifting the trophy in 2018 is a heist to remember. He recalled the knocks played by Dwayne Bravo, Kedar Jadhav, Sam Billings, MS Dhoni, Rayudu and then Faf du Plessis, Shardul Thakur and Shane Watson in the final to lift the trophy. He believes it was one of the top two defining moments for CSK.
1. Comeback for the ages:
Once again, he spoke about the 2018 edition, in which, they have to move away from the home venue to Pune after tensions in the state. The fans travelled all over and the players put up the show more often than not. Later, he recalled the century of Shane Watson in the final and the celebrations following the victory in the final. He called it a top defining moment.
