It was a moment to rejoice for the Tendulkar family as promising Arjun Tendulkar, the son of none other than Mr Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar was selected in India’s Under-19 side.
The young brigade will travel to Sri Lanka for four-day matches and limited overs encounter. The junior Tendulkar has been selected in the four-day format. However, he wasn’t part of the limited-overs squad.
Following his selection, there was mixed emotion. Some fans even remarked on the selection of Arjun as a case of nepotism being the son of legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
There were many fans who backed him to come good in the Island nation. Some of the public backed Arjun to emulate his father at the international level. However, some of the fans were not happy with the selection.
When you look at the numbers of Junior Tendulkar in junior cricket it will be fair to say that he got into the junior national team on the back of some impressive performances.
Arjun will, in fact, spearhead the bowling attack. The lanky left-arm pacer bagged 18 wickets in nine matches in the Cooch Behar Trophy. He also continued his impressive performances in other U-19 tournaments respectively.

Being a left-arm pacer also sent in his favour. A left-arm seamer in India is one of the biggest takeaways for a young cricketer.
However, he must be backed well and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should not exhaust him. This is just the start of his career and he should concentrate on doing the basics right. There have been mixed responses from people on Arjun’s selection.

However, Harsha Bhogle, one of the most famous cricket commentators and broadcaster squashed all those claims. He stated that Arjun shouldn’t be treated as Sachin’s son as he has made his identity with his impressive showing in junior-level cricket.
“It is not “Sachin’s son” who is picked for India U19. It is Arjun, a player in his own right and we must respect that,” Bhogle wrote on his official Twitter handle.
It is not "Sachin's son" who is picked for India U19. It is Arjun Tendulkar, a player in his own right and we must respect that.
Arjun failed to make it to the U-19 World Cup team which India won earlier in the year in New Zealand under the captaincy of Prithvi Shaw. He missed out on the opportunity to play in a World Cup.
Arjun won’t be eligible to play the next U-19 World Cup as he will be 20 when the next U-19 World Cup starts.
