England young batsman Haseeb Hameed has heaped praises on Indian captain Virat Kohli’s firm mindedness that has enabled him to be one of the greats of the game. Virat Kohli recently has etched his name in the record books by becoming the fastest batsman to reach 12000 runs in ODI cricket, doing so in 241 innings, Haseeb Hameed, who made his Test debut against India, sees the 32-year old as his inspiration.

Haseeb Hameed got his first Test cap against India in Rajkot in 2016, crafting a mature knock of 82 followed by another half-century in Mohali in the same series. The 23-year old demonstrated discipline, commitment, and vigil in his three-Test career so far, racking up 219 runs at 43.80. However, the runs dried up in the domestic circuit after that forcing him out of the selection radar. Nevertheless, Hameed signed a new contract with English county side Nottinghamshire before which he scored three fifties for Lancashire in the Bob Willis Trophy.

Haseeb Hameed recalled Virat Kohli’s words back in 2016, claiming him to be a future star, mentioning it as a massive confidence booster and huge, given it came from a burgeoning name in world cricket. The right-handed batsman stated that Kohli is an inspiration for all those people, reminding them that they could achieve what they want if they put their minds in it alongside discipline. As for his temperament, Hameed remains confident that he has something deep down that won’t stop him.

“Obviously for someone like Virat to say that does give you a lot of confidence and he is a massive inspiration for me as it is. I think he is a great inspiration for people to look at and see what you can achieve if you put your mind to it and have a bit of discipline. I have something deep down that won’t let me stop,” Hameed stated as quoted by Times of India.

The Lancashire-born cricketer further said that his ambition to play for England remains healthy than ever having experienced international cricket when quite young. Haseeb Hameed, who would be 24 in a couple of months, sees himself playing for another 12 to 13 years.

“Having got a taste of it very young and then those experiences that follow, it has been an absolute rollercoaster but that ambition is still there. I am 23, I will be 24 in a couple of months but I still see myself hopefully playing this game I love for another 12 to 13 years, if not longer,” he added.
