Former South Africa cricketer Hashim Amla is all set to sign for County side Surrey on a Kolpak deal. Amla, one of the greatest batsmen to come out of the country, announced his retirement from international cricket earlier this year.

As per reports in ESPNCricinfo, Amla is likely to sign a deal for two years which could take by this weekend. Surrey is keen to complete all the procedures well ahead of the end of the month when the possibility of a no-deal Brexit could close the loophole on future Kolpak registrations in the county game.

They are likely to receive a fair share of criticism for signing two players on Kolpak but Hashim Amla’s inclusion will boost them as they will miss many players due to international commitments. Rory Burns, Ollie Pope and Sam Curran could all be absent for long periods over the next few seasons.

Amla, who had earlier played for Derbyshire in the County Championship, retired from international cricket earlier this year. Hashim Amla played 124 Tests and 181 ODIs. He scored 9282 runs in the longest format of the game at 46.64. In ODIs, the right-handed batsman scored 8113 at 49.46.

Amla holds the record of being the quickest batsman to score 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000 and 7000 runs in ODI cricket. He is also the quickest batsman to score 15 centuries in this format. The former South Africa skipper will want to add value to his new team and score tons of runs over the next two years.
