Young wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson took the social media by storm with a double century in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match. Soon after the knock, Congress leader MP Shashi Tharoor praised Thiruvananthapuram’s own son. However, fast bowler reminded Tharoor that Samson is an Indian first.

The Kerala cricketer broke the record of the highest individual score against Goa in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Samson remained unbeaten on 212 runs alongside a century from Sachin Baby to help Kerala post 377 runs in their 50 overs.

The 24-year-old swashbuckling batsman came to the crease in the fourth over after Robin Uthappa’s dismissal. Sanju Samson came out all guns blazing hitting the first 50 in just 30 deliveries. He completed his century in 66 balls and then needed another 69 balls to double that score.

“In transit in Frankfurt on the way to the @IPUparliament meeting in Belgrade when i get the news that Thiruvananthapuram’s own Sanju Samson has hit 200 in a Vijay Hazare 50 over game! Ten sixes, 20 fours. Don’t know if our white-ball selectors were watching?!” Tharoor had tweeted.

While many recognized Tharoor’s effort to ask the selectors to put their priorities on Sanju Samson, the tweet did not go down well with Sreesanth, who also happens to be from the same city. Commenting on the Congress leader’s tweet, Sreesanth asked him to not tag the cricketer “as just a Trivandrum boy”.

“Sir..,Don’t tag him as just a Trivandrum boy..he is Malayalam”s proud son and a great INDIAN. He is gonna make all of us proud very soon by scoring big and better in internationals @where he belongs..let’s hope and give him the best support .. @IamSanjuSamson,” Sreesanth tweeted.
