Former South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs was involved in a heated exchange of messages on Twitter on Saturday. It all happened after South Africa lost the second T20I against England by just two runs. Proteas skipper Quinton de Kock once again impressed by hitting a whirlwind fifty but it was not enough for his team to cross the line and seal the three-match series.

And after the end of the thrilling clash, Herschelle Gibbs took to Twitter to opine that the Proteas need to a find a player who can put the bowlers under pressure just like de Kock. He also said that de Kock is under too much pressure to deliver the goods for his team, tweeting:

“We need to find a partner for quinny with same mindset and who can put bowlers under pressure in odi and t20s. To much pressure on him to get after the bowlers.”

As soon as Herschelle Gibbs complained about the lack of support for de Kock, a number of South Africa fans opined that Temba Bavuma is playing that role. However, Herschelle Gibbs was not impressed with the replies and did not shy away from making it clear.

This is when one of the frustrated fans lashed out at Gibbs and did not stop himself from abusing the legendary batsman. Well, the ex-South Africa international also made sure to reply to the abuse and hit back at the user although in a subtle manner.

“Like you are to,” wrote Gibbs and followed it by a yawning emoji before adding: “Like you need a comb for your hair.try play some international sport.”

South Africa, meanwhile, fell two runs short while chasing a mammoth total of 205 runs. They needed 15 runs in the final over but Tom Curran held his nerve to take England over the line and keep the series alive.
