South Africa once again had a poor outing with the bat in pursuit of India’s 601 for five declared in the second Test in Pune. Meanwhile, the Proteas appointed India-based Amol Mazumdar as the batting consultant ahead of the series to help the visiting batters. Former South Africa cricketer Herschelle Gibbs took a sly dig at Mazumdar as the visitors stare at another defeat.
The host declared 40mins ahead of the second day’s play to give the bowlers some time to have a go against South Africa batters. The pacers used the opportunity to perfection claiming three quick wickets to end the day at 36 for three. Comeback man Umesh Yadav scalped two while Mohammed Shami returned with one.
South Africa needed a much better display from their cricketers to match up to India’s first innings total. But the Indian bowlers kept up their brilliant work with Shami providing the first breakthrough of the morning before Umesh removing the set Theunis de Bruyn.
The spinners then joined the party to remove Quinton de Kock and Senuran Muthusamy. Skipper Faf du Plessis only to have control over the situation scoring a fine half-century but failed to convert it to a century. Ravichandran Ashwin picked his second to have South Africa stranded at 162 for eight.

Herschelle Gibbs seemed extremely irritated by the poor outing of the Proteas batsman. Thus, he targeted India-based batting consultant Amol Mazumdar. South Africa have hoped Mazumdar, who also works with Rajasthan Royals, to overcome the demons of their batters. But so far, the former cricketer has failed in his task and will require an upside change to overturn things in the coming games.
“And we heard such good reviews about the local batting consultant, wonder what his thoughts are #INDvsSA #sscricket,” Herschelle Gibbs tweeted.
