After former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar revealed that Pakistani players mistreated Danish Kaneria for being a Hindu, former India cricketer Madan Lal said it is the lack of education in Pakistan that is the difference between India and Pakistan players. He also said that Hindu cricketers in the Pakistan team tend to be attracted to India.

Recently, Akhtar, whose words are known to be as blunt as his bowling, recently revealed how Pakistan players cornered Danish Kaneria because he was from a different religion. Kaneria, only the second Hindu to play for Pakistan after his maternal uncle Anil Dalpat, took 261 wickets in 61 Tests at an average of 34.79. He also played 18 ODIs. Akhtar made the revelation during a show ‘Game on Hai’ aired on PTV Sports.

Following Shoaib Akhtar’s claim, Danis Kaneria has also come forward and promised to reveal the name of those who bifurcated based on religion. From the Indian contingent, Gautam Gambhir slammed Pakistan, and now Madan Lal echoed the same voice.

“There are just two Hindus that have represented Pakistan in cricket. I have noticed that whenever Hindu players represented Pakistan, they tended to be attracted more towards us, they liked talking to us. I have toured Pakistan, I have seen Hindus in that country, the difference was obviously there,” Lal told ANI.

“As team-mates, you need to support each other. The difference between India and Pakistan players is the lack of education there. Players in both countries are quite talented, but lack of education is the main difference,” he added.

Furthermore, Madan Lal congratulated Shoaib Akhtar for standing beside Danish Kaneria as he called this kind of incidents as unfortunate. In conclusion, the former fast bowler said that these incidents would never take place in the Indian dressing room.

“First of all, I would say whatever Shoaib Akhtar has said, it is right as he played alongside Kaneria in the team. It is very unfortunate if it has happened, as Kaneria has been one of the best spinners to come out of Pakistan. These things are not good to hear about,” Lal said.

“In India’s dressing room, players from different religions have represented our side, but no such thing has ever happened here,” he signed off.
