Home Series Against Sri Lanka Served Little Purpose: Harbhajan Singh

India cricketer, Harbhajan Singh, thinks that the home series against Sri Lanka served little purpose for the Indian cricket team and India gained nothing from that series,
“Look I believe the last Sri Lanka series at home served little purpose. We hardly gained anything out of it. Rather a few players could have gone to South Africa early. If not Dharamsala could have been a great place for preparation. Its high altitude, cooler weather, seam movement along with bounce would have given them ideal preparation before a tough assignment like South Africa,” he told PTI.
Indian team flew to South Africa just a week ahead before the start of the tour after completing a full-fledged series against Sri Lanka, which comprised of a total of three Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is. The only time when team India faced a defeat was in the first ODI.
In the Test series, Sri Lanka showed some resilience in only third Test and suffered a defeat in the second game. India could have won the first game at Eden Gardens too, but they failed to win the race against time, courtesy rain.
It was the second full-fledged series that the Indian team played against Sri Lanka and never during both the series, team India faced any difficulty. In fact, on India’s tour of Sri Lanka in the mid-year, the visitors posted a win in all the nine games that were played across formats. They earned all the laurels against Sri Lanka but when they were put against a strong attack in difficult conditions; the Virat Kohli led side failed.
Team India has already lost the series by losing the first two Tests of the series and is on the verge of being whitewashed, which will be the first-ever series whitewash for India under Kohli. It is only the first time under Kohli when team India has lost a Test series too.
The Men in Blue are all set to travel Sri Lanka again post the completion of South Africa tour for a T20I tri-series, where the Virat Kohli led team will go as favourites. A stern test will wait for them when they travel to England in July after playing IPL and two T20Is against Ireland.
There, the visitors will have to pull off a victory to prove a point or else; a home-track bully tag will automatically get attached to this team.
