Any cricket match between India and Pakistan is bound to break the barriers as far as viewership is concerned. And when both the teams lock horns in any World Cup clash, more often than not it creates milestones. The latest fixture between the two arch-rivals in the ongoing World Cup 2019 did not turn out to be an exception.

Star India’s live streaming platform Hotstar saw 100 million daily active users during the marquee clash in Manchester on June 16. The game’s viewership thus became the highest-ever single day reach for the platform. According to a report in Business Standard, nearly two-thirds (66 per cent) of the 100 million users on the day came from towns beyond the big metro cities.

Hotstar also registered a record-breaking concurrency of 15.6 million, the highest ever for an ODI match, marking a 1.7 times increase in average concurrency compared to any other India match. Concurrency refers to the number of people watching a match on the platform simultaneously.

Hotstar  recorded concurrency of up to 18.6 million during this year’s Indian Premier League. The ICC Cricket World Cup is being streamed across six languages — English, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada. The streaming platform also retained the social-viewing feature layer and gamification efforts with Watch ‘N Play.

“We are delighted to have been able to deliver an uninterrupted cricket watching experience to such a large audience at once. Having achieved a single day platform reach of 100 million demonstrates the indisputable technology prowess that Hotstar brings to the OTT industry. This remarkable achievement has helped us set a new viewership benchmark,” Varun Narang, chief product officer of Hotstar, was quoted as saying by the news outlet.

Talking about the game, it failed to live up to the expectations. While India played a perfect game, Pakistan failed to do well. Asked to bat first, India piled up a huge total of 336 for 5 in the allotted 50 overs. In reply, Pakistan ended up on a modest total of 212 for 6 in 40 overs, thus losing the game by 89 runs (DLS method).
