Just days after Ambati Rayudu announced his decision to come out of retirement, Hyderabad have appointed him as their captain for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy. The former India batsman had sensationally announced his retirement from the game after the World Cup snub. Ambati Rayudu was a surprising omission from India’s squad for the tournament.
Things then went from bad to worse for him as he was not preferred to replace the injured players despite being in the stand-by list. Hurt with the snubs, Rayudu decided to bring down curtains on his career. However, he recently decided to come out of retirement and has now received good support from Hyderabad.
Rayudu’s next aim will definitely be to make a return to Team India which looks highly unlikely. With the likes of Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer and Vijay Shankar now ahead of him in the pecking order, Rayudu faces an upheaval task as far as returning to the national team is concerned. All he can do for the time being is to impress for Hyderabad and hope for the best.

Meanwhile, out-of-favour India pacer Mohammed Siraj is also a part of the Hyderabad squad. The right-arm will be available for the entire tournament as there are no matches planned for India A during that period. Siraj recently played for India A in the first unofficial Test against South Africa A. He is also a part of the second unofficial Test match.
Hyderabad will kickstart their season against Karnataka on September 24. The Ambati Rayudu-led side will next face Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Saurashtra, Mumbai and Kerala in the league stage. Hyderabad will play all their matches in Bangalore.
