Perhaps, there would be hardly a cricket fanatic, who isn’t aware of the name Chris Gayle. There is no denying the fact that he is one of the few players, who can dismantle any kind of bowling attack on his day. But, the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 is going to be his final display in the 50-over format, as he would like to call curtains on his ODI career.

The 39-year-old opener is set to play his first international since last July against England on Wednesday. Post the 2015 World Cup, the big-hitting southpaw has played only 15 ODIs including the World Cup Qualifiers last year in Zimbabwe.

I am still enjoying my game – Chris Gayle

Announcing the news, Chris Gayle quoted that he is still the greatest players in the country and will take that to the grave. Further, he went on to add saying that he would like to end his last home Series against England on a high note by entertaining the local people.

“You’re looking at a great man,” he said at Kensington Oval on Sunday. “I’m the greatest player in the world. Of course, I’m still the Universe Boss. That will never change. I’ll take that to the grave. I’m looking to draw the line after the World Cup. Or should I say cut the string? Definitely, in 50-over cricket, the World Cup is the end for me. I’ll let the youngsters have some fun and I can sit back in the party stand and watch them have some fun,” Chris Gayle quoted.

“I’m in good condition,” he said. “The body is feeling good and I’m pleased with that. I’ve lost a bit of weight and I don’t want to get too big. I’m still working on my six pack. I’m trying to keep up with the youngsters in the field who are like cats the way they chase the ball. I still have it in me and I’m still enjoying it,” he added.

Good Thing is that I will be donning Windies Kit again:

Further, he expressed his excitement to wear the Windies Jersey once again for the country. Gayle believes that he can pass on his experience to the youngsters in the side and help them do wonders for the team. He wants to enjoy the next couple of months as much as possible.

“Being back in West Indies colours is the most important thing. I’m actually looking to go forward with the Windies. I’ll be bringing some experience to play and sharing that with the youngsters and I hope to enjoy the next couple of months with the West Indies cricket team,” he said in a press conference.

All in all, the game of cricket set to lose yet another iconic cricket after the ICC World Cup 2019. Thankfully, he is continuing his cricket in the shorter formats of the game, which is a sense of relief for his fans across the globe.
