Kieron Pollard-led West Indies were never the favourites to win against India in the just-concluded three-match ODI series. Not many would have given them a chance to challenging India, let alone beating them. However, the Caribbean outfit sprung a big surprise by thrashing their fancied hosts by eight wickets in the series-opener.

And while they did well in the other two games too, India were just too good for them. After winning the second game by 107 runs, India, on Sunday, beat West Indies by four wickets to clinch the series 2-1. Asked to bat first, West Indies did well to post a challenging total of 315 for 5 in the stipulated 50 overs. Nicholas Pooran and Kieron Pollard starred with the bat for the visitors.

While Pooran slammed 89 off just 64 balls, Pollard smashed 74 off 51 as West Indies crossed the 300-run mark. But India chased down the target without facing much trouble. In-form openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul laid the foundation for the chase by adding 122 runs for the first wicket before Virat Kohli’s 85-run knock put India on the brink. Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur then did the rest.

Speaking at the end of the match, West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard said that he was not disappointed but proud of his teammates. He also had some words of praise for the likes of Pooran, Shai Hope and Sheldon Cottrell.

“I don’t think there is much to be disappointed actually. I’m very very proud of the guys and yes we faltered a bit with the ball and in the field, but India yet again pushed us hard and showed why there are the number one team in the world.

“Lots of exciting talent in our team and we all know what they are capable of. Hetmyer had a good couple of knocks, Pooran and his superb ball striking, Hope and his consistency and the salute guy Cottrell, I believe there is lot to look forward in the future. For me it’s trying to contribute when its necessary and its been a good series for both teams,” he said.
