After Jhulan Goswami announced her T20I retirement on Thursday, the veteran fast bowler opens up on her decision. It would have been a fitting farewell if Jhulan had played for India in the imminent World Cup.

However, the leading wicket-taker in the Women’s cricketing world couldn’t quite carry on to represent India in the T20I games. Goswami felt it is the time for her to call it quits in the shortest version of the game.

Goswami has always been the match-winner for India with her fantastic bowling displays. However, of late, her performances are hitting the decreasing bar. She wanted to concentrate more on ODI games rather than T20I.

“It’s not an overnight decision. I have been thinking about this for some time and I couldn’t motivate myself to play T20Is… I had informed teammates and the selectors about it,” Jhulan said on Thursday.

“The game has become faster… I wasn’t able to give my best in both the formats… I think this is the right time to move on and have decided to concentrate on ODIs more,” she said to The Telegraph.

Her best came against Australian women. She managed to pick five wickets for just 11 runs against star-studded Australia in 2012 at Visakhapatnam.
