Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen has slammed Ambati Rayudu for not showing any urgency while running between the wickets during the clash between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
RCB thrashed CSK by 37 runs to pile more misery on the three-time champions. The loss was the fifth one for CSK in seven games. The MS Dhoni-led side will have to come up with a remarkable turnaround in the second half of IPL 2020 to salvage their season or else they will miss out on a playoff berth for the first time in the history of the IPL.
Just like the previous defeats, CSK showed very little intent against RCB as they ended up on 132 for 8 while chasing 170. Right from the start of the chase, the CSK batsmen did not show any kind of urgency as the required run-rate kept mounting up.
Kevin Pietersen slams Ambati Rayudu:
Kevin Pietersen was not at all impressed with Ambati Rayudu’s running between the wickets during the clash. The right-handed batsman came out to bat in the fourth over and was dismissed in the 18th over. But despite batting so long, he managed to score only 42 runs while facing 40 balls.
Kevin Pietersen criticised the CSK star after he didn’t even try to take a double during the eighth over of the innings. While his partner N Jagadeesan had already completed the first run and tried to take a double, Ambati Rayudu was yet to complete the first run as he was seen jogging in the middle of the pitch.
“Ambati Rayudu needs to wake up a little bit. You see the best players in the world, they run between the wickets, they push the sweepers hard. When you are chasing these kind of numbers, I don’t care who you are, you have to watch the best and the best sprint between the wickets,” Kevin Pietersen said on-air.
Watch Kohli, watch de Villiers, watch du Plessis, Warner, Bairstow, they set the standards, you’ve got to follow,” he added.
