I Don't Walk Up To A Selector To Ask For My Selection: Faiz Fazal

It was in 2016 when Faiz Fazal received his maiden national call-up for Zimbabwe tour where India travelled with a second string side.
MS Dhoni was leading the team with likes of KL Rahul, Karun Nair, Jayant Yadav in it.
Fazal, who wasn’t part of an IPL team that year, made it to the national team riding on his form in Irani Cup and Deodhar Trophy.
He didn’t get a chance in first two games, and when it looked like he might go back uncapped, Fazal made his ODI debut in the third game.
Opening the innings with KL Rahul, Fazal shared a match-winning partnership of 126 with KL Rahul, and himself scored 55 runs.
That was the only time he played for India and is yet to earn a recall.
The 2017/18 season, which ended today (March 18), was probably the best one for Fazal where he scored 912 runs in Ranji Trophy to emerge out as the second highest run-scorer.
Not just that, he also led Vidarbha to Ranji Trophy title victory and to add to it, Vidarbha also won the Irani Cup.
On both the occasions MSK Prasad, the Chairman of the selection panel, was in attendance and he witnessed Fazal playing a part in team’s triumph.
He would have taken note, but presently, Fazal does not look close to a national call-up.
It’s frustrating for a player to be deprived of a national call-u despite domestic performances and on being asked whether if he has ever asked any selector regarding this, Fazal said
“No. Never. I am not that types who will walk up to a selector and ask them about my selection and all. I think all these are our seniors and I am sure they are keeping close tabs on everyone’s performance, including mine. All I can do is to keep performing and hope for the best,” he told Sportstar.
Looking at his performances, he is expected to make it to India A side for the tour of England.
Presently, India have Shikhar Dhawan, Murali Vijay and KL Rahul in opening combination in Tests, but all these failed to deliver in South Africa.
A good show for India A, if selected, can also see him making it to the national side for the long season ahead.
Apart from Fazal, Rajneesh Gurbani has also pushed his case for selection in India A side.
He scalped 39 wickets in six Ranji Trophy games he played.
Come the Irani Cup, he continued his golden run and scalped four wickets in Rest of India’s first and only innings of the match.
These two are not a part of any IPL team and their performance for Indi A, if selected, will be crucial for them to make it to the Indian team.
