Out-of-favour India spinner Amit Mishra has rued the way his career has turned out, saying that he has yet not received a satisfactory answer on his axing from Team India. The veteran leg-spinner last played for India in February 2017 during the T20I series against England while his last Test and ODI appearance came in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

The way things stand at the moment, it would not be very wrong to say that another comeback to the national team looks highly unlikely for him. With the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja doing well, Amit Mishra is nowhere close to earning a recall from the Indian team.

As far as performance is concerned, the veteran has done really well for India in ODIs. He has played 36 ODIs for India, picking up 64 wickets at an outstanding average of 23.60. The right-arm pacer was, in fact, the Man of the Series in his last ODI series which was against New Zealand. Amit Mishra had picked up 5 wickets for just 18 runs on his last ODI appearance.

He has an impressive IPL record too in the last two seasons. In 21 matches in the previous two IPL editions, the leg-spinner has scalped 23 wickets with best figures of 3/17. However, the selectors have not been kind to Amit Mishra and unsurprisingly, he is disappointed with it.

“I still question myself why this happened to me. No one has been able to give me a satisfactory answer. It was a rule in the team that if someone was forced out with an injury, he would come back to the team. Wriddhiman Saha made a comeback after a 1.5-year injury layoff. I don’t know why this did not happen with me,” Amit Mishra said in an interaction with Sports Tak.

“Even when I was in form, whenever the axe needed to fall on someone, it had to be Mishra.

“I have performed for India at every opportunity, even when thrown into the toughest situations. I was removed from the team at the peak of my performance because of injury,” he added.
